About us
Respectfully written in appreciation to Her Royal Highness.
The Wheelchair Project is proud to have Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn as its royal sponsor
Our History
The Wheelchair Project was founded in 1999 and continues to strive to serve people affected by disabilities to this day. While not always an easy journey and with a healthy mix of success and frustrations over the many years of faithful service, the future has never looked more bright and promising than it does today. Not only has the work we do expanded dramatically since the project’s inception, but our efforts are not made alone. There are now more people, more programs, more resources available to the families and individuals we serve than we have ever seen before, and we are excited to be a major contributing force for positive change. The Wheelchair Project is uniquely blessed to have a front-row view to the sweeping change taking hold and we feel a surge of energy from the possibilities and potential being made available for the first time for Thailand.
We believe that every patient we serve has a right to access the mobility aids we are providing, and the work we do is not “going above and beyond.” This work is a fundamental service that no person should ever feel “lucky” to receive, and ae are immensely proud of the ways so many people all over the world have stepped up to seize this opportunity to work as a global community towards a brighter future. This community of volunteers, healthcare providers, logistics personnel, administration staff, technicians, humanitarians, and stakeholders all work together to transform what would be an overwhelming task into a thriving system that continues to grow and expand throughout Southeast Asia and the world. We have always said there is no limit to what we can accomplish when we work together and this community continues to prove this right – time and time again.
Our Vision
We see the world as an interconnected group of people, all members of the same community. We envision a global community working in concert to meet the needs of every member therein to promote inclusion of all people regardless of ability, religion, gender or race
Our Mission
The RICD Wheelchair Project strives to provide mobility aids and other medical equipment to the people of Thailand, raise awareness regarding the needs of those with disabilities, and empower and encourage the disadvantaged to become fully integrated into their communities
